Drepung Loseling Phukhang Khangsten

Drepung Loseling Phukhang Khangsten was founded by Tsangtso Samten 500 years ago. It is one of the largest Khangtsen (sub-monastery) of Drepung Loseling Monastery. Over the years, Drepung Loseling Phukhang Khangtsen has matured into a fully fledged recognized and reputed Khangtsen playing a vital role in the preservation of Mahayana Buddhist Philosophy. It has the glory of producing hundreds of renowned scholars in the field of Mahayana Buddhist Philosophy. It became an integrated society where 300 monks from Tibet, lived in harmony. It became a community where monks get proper education, warmth and love of family. The most outstanding feature of Drepung Loseling Phukhang Khangtsen is its parental responsibility of looking after them until death. This great centre of learning suffered a setback in the year 1959 when Communist China occupied the spiritual place TIBET. Fortunately, we are able to re-establish this Khangtsen in Mundgod, Karnataka State, southern India under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Tibetan Government in exile. It is mainly to enrich the virtue of honesty, compassion and sacrifice taught by Lord Buddha to conform that the same culture as before. This Khangtsen is home to 300 monks. Drepung Loseling Phukhang Khangtsen is currently led by Sharpa Choje Rinpoche (second highest lama in Gelupa sect after Gadhen Tri Rinpoche ), Geshe Lobsang Lhundup (master of religious ceremony) and Geshe Chodak (Director of the Institute).
